Hiking up Bear Canyon we went through several ecosystems. From the plains to the rugged canyon we had beautiful scenery all the way.
1. Beginning the hike with the Beartooths as a backdrop. 2. Snow up in the canyon. 3. Afternoon sun turned the trail muddy in places. And one of our vistas. Yay! I get to be the first to document a club hike to the Pryors. |

FANTASTIC pictures and hike - looks like you had it all in terms of weather and hiking conditions - the vistas are wonderful. Sorry I missed it.

Way, WAY back in High School days I wandered around Bear Canyon searching for the elusive 'Bear Canyon Fortification Agate'. Have seen specimens, but never located the source. As I recall it's a black/white 'banded' agate, much like the Dryhead agate, simply a different color. Anyone locate any while hiking?

Yes, I found one nice small specimen that I showed to others on the spring hike. With many collectors searching, ones with bands are getting harder to find every year. Billings Gem and Mineral Club members have found amazing specimens, which they have brought to their meetings on the first TH of each month for "show & tell."
